Weight of My Own Shadow

I’ve been walking with a shadow

heavier than my bones.

Every step I take,

it whispers all the truth I tried to hide.

The night keeps getting longer,

and the light feels far from home.

Lord knows I’ve been trying

to outrun the pain inside.

But somewhere in the darkness,

I heard a trembling voice

“Son, you ain’t broken,

you’re just searching for a choice.”

I’m sinking in the weight of my own shadow,

but I’m rising with the fire in my soul.

Even when the world turns cold around me,

I won’t fold, no, I won’t fold.

My sorrow is a river I must follow

and it’s leading me back home.

All the moments I’ve been hiding,

they return like ghosts at dawn.

Every tear I never cried

is knocking on my fragile heart.

Still I keep on breathing,

though the air feels almost gone.

I’m learning that the healing

is the hardest part to start.

But somewhere in the silence,

a gentle truth I found

“Storms can shake your body,

but can’t keep your spirit down.”
